Lady Aggies use 35-point third quarter to secure spot in area finals

The varsity women's basketball team has advanced to the area championship after a 77-53 win over the Jemison Panthers.

The final score, however, is not indicative of how the entire game went for the Lady Aggies.

Sylacauga took a 32-31 deficit into the locker room as the buzzer sounded to end the first half after a second quarter filled with turnovers saw Jemison make a tremendous run to lead at the break.

The third quarter is where the Aggie offense began to click. An onslaught of three point baskets and great transition offense mixed with a rallying defense helped Sylacauga get off to a 35-9 run in the first eight minutes out of the break. After trailing by one at halftime, Sylacauga would lead 66-41 going into the final frame.

"All the credit for that run goes to our girls. They came out and brought their best game when we needed it in the third quarter," said Coach Victor Smith. "We had some big three point shots fall for us, and our defense was as good as its been all year. I'm proud of the way we came out and fought in the second half."

The top-seeded Aggies went on to win 77-53, and will now advance to face Clay Central Thursday at 6:00 in the area finals at Sylacauga High School.
