SYLACAUGA, Ala. - Sylacauga varsity programs departed Douglass-Martin Court victorious on Friday night with area and rivalry wins wrapped into one.
Varsity girls took the floor first on the night to face the Clay Central Volunteers in a hard-fought battle. Senior Hadyn Owens helped the Lady Aggies take control in the first quarter scoring eight of the first 11 Aggie points. Sylacauga never trailed untill the 2:53 mark in the 4th quarter where Ashanti Brock's three-pointer gave the Vols a 46-44 lead.
The Lady Aggies, however, would close things out in the end 55-48 to stay undefeated in area games.
The boys would follow the girls in an absolute battle with the Volunteers in a game that went back and forth for four quarters. Kent Fullington's Aggies, in deep foul trouble after the first half, would use 11 three pointers on the night to seal an area victory, 71-66. The boys also advance to 2-0 in the area.
Sylacauga is back in action next week with three games on the schedule. Monday at Chelsea, Tuesday at home vs. Lincoln, and Friday at home vs. Talladega.
