Jay Brooks

Jay was born and raised in Sylacauga. He is the son of Harold and Becky Brooks and the brother of Tracey Allen, Wendy Arnold, and Jody Brooks. Jay is married to Ami Brooks, and has two daughters, Ella Kate Brooks and Gracyn Brooks. Jay is a 1992 graduate of Sylacauga High School where he earned athletic accolades under Coaches Don Flippo and Steve Calabro. After high school, Jay signed a scholarship to Southern Union State Community College where he earned an Associates in Science degree and played baseball under coach Jabo Jordan. While there, he was a member of the 1995 Junior College State Championship team. Jay then transferred to Auburn University Montgomery where he played baseball on scholarship for coach Q.V. Lowe. He was named to the All-Conference team in 1996, led the Senators to a conference championship, and graduated with a Bachelors in Education. After graduating from AUM, Jay worked in the golf industry for 13 years as an account executive for the Jerry Pate Company. In 2012, Jay went back to AUM and earned his Masters in Education and was named AUM’s “Graduate Student of the Year” award. He was hired by the Sylacauga City Schools in 2014 and was named Alabama Power’s “New Teacher of the Year”,and was the 2022 Joseph Morton “Educator of the Year.” Jay led the Sylacauga Softball program from 2014-2019, Under his leadership, his teams won the only area championship in program history and made four Regional Tournament appearances. During his tenure with the softball program 9 of his players received athletic scholarships to play college softball. He is entering his 5th season as the pitching coach for the Sylacauga High School Baseball program. Brooks served as an assistant for the baseball program from 2020-22, coaching pitching and hitting.
