Josie Harrison is an 11th-grade student-athlete at Sylacauga High School and the current No. 1 seed on the Sylacauga High School Varsity Tennis Team. She started playing and competing in tennis at eight years old and is entering her fifth year on the team. Josie competes in both singles and doubles and has represented Sylacauga in area, sectional, state, and tournament competition. One of her biggest accomplishments came when she became an AHSAA Sectional Champion at the No. 1 singles position, earning the opportunity to represent Sylacauga High School at the AHSAA State Tennis Championships. Another special highlight this year was earning her first No. 1 singles victory against Pell City during her high school career. It was a milestone she was especially proud of, and she was honored to take home the game ball from the match. Josie’s favorite stroke is her forehand, and she enjoys the challenge of competing and pushing herself to improve. Her favorite part of tennis is the moment right before a match begins—the excitement and nerves mixed with the feeling of everything becoming quiet and still just before the first serve. Off the court, Josie maintains a GPA above 4.0 and is committed to balancing academic excellence with athletics and community involvement. She is passionate about inspiring others to stay active and participate in sports while supporting her teammates both on and off the court. Josie is focused on continuing to develop her game, competing at a high level, and challenging herself against strong competition. She plans to continue playing tennis at the collegiate level while pursuing her academic goals.
