Sylacauga Volleyball Area Tournament Schedule released
SYLACAUGA, Ala. — The Sylacauga High School volleyball team will host the area tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 13, after finishing the regular season as area champions.
The tournament will feature Sylacauga, Clay Central, Moody and Shelby County, with three matches scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening at Sylacauga High School.
Sylacauga will open tournament play at 4 p.m. against Clay Central. Moody and Shelby County will meet in the second semifinal at 5:30 p.m. The winners of the two semifinal matches will advance to the area championship, which is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Lady Aggies earned the opportunity to host the tournament by finishing first in the area standings during the regular season.
Sylacauga put together a strong area schedule and secured the top seed heading into postseason play. That finish allows the Aggies to remain at home for the area tournament and play in a familiar setting.
Tuesday’s first semifinal will match Sylacauga with Clay Central, while Moody and Shelby County will compete for the other spot in the championship match.
The tournament format means the two semifinal winners will both play twice in the same day, with the area title decided later that evening.
For Sylacauga, the focus will first be on advancing past Clay Central and earning a place in the championship match.
The Lady Aggies have already completed a successful regular season in area play, but the tournament will determine the area champion and postseason positioning moving forward.
Hosting the event also gives Sylacauga students and supporters an opportunity to see the team compete at home in postseason play.
The first match will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday with Sylacauga facing Clay Central. Moody and Shelby County are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the championship match at 7 p.m.
All three matches will be played at Sylacauga High School.
