Two interceptions vs. Lincoln
Sylacauga senior defensive back Jace Welch delivered one of the biggest defensive performances of the season Friday night, helping the Aggies secure a win with a pair of interceptions and a game-saving play in the final moments.
Welch finished the night with five tackles and two interceptions, but it was his second pick that proved to be the difference.
With the opponent threatening late and driving toward a potential game-winning score, Welch stepped in front of a pass in the end zone and came away with the interception, sealing the victory for Sylacauga.
It was a fitting finish to a strong night for the senior defensive back, who was consistently around the football and helped the Aggie defense come up with stops when it mattered most.
Welch’s two interceptions gave Sylacauga valuable extra possessions, while his five tackles added to an all-around performance in the secondary.
For a senior playing in a close game, there are few moments bigger than being asked to make a play with the outcome hanging in the balance. Welch answered that call.
His game-winning interception in the end zone capped a memorable performance and earned Jace Welch Athlete of the Week honors.
